If you have any food allergies (it’s nuts for me), then traveling to countries in which English is not widely spoken or where you don’t speak the local language can be an, ahem, adventure to say the least. The translation cards from SelectWisely can be a great help. And they hurt less than the epi-pen.

I was in China a couple of years back and wound up at lunch with a business colleague who spoke no English and his associate who spoke little. My colleague and I spoke only a smattering of Mandarin (and not well). The chosen restaurant featured Sechuan cuisine (famous for its nutty ingredients and high heat that can mask those) and none of the staff could make sense of my handwritten “I’m allergic to nuts” note. I took my chances and emerged unscathed after a wonderful meal but sure wish I had one of these professionally rendered cards at the time. Next time, I will.
