John Williams of Heritage Travel, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, was kind enough to share this essay by the always insightful Pico Iyer from the Salon archives. It captures much that we try to bring forward through Executive Nomad: even though we business travelers have to travel, the secret is to approach it as if you were traveling by choice.
“Travel is the best way we have of rescuing the humanity of places, and saving them from abstraction and ideology,” Iyer says. “Travel in that sense guides us toward a better balance of wisdom and compassion — of seeing the world clearly, and yet feeling it truly.”
This brief essay is well worth the read. Enjoy — and pass it on.
