Offset Your Carbon at SFO

Kiosk photo

You are rushing through SFO on your way to catch a flight back east or perhaps farther west to the Far East and you feel a twinge of guilt about the carbon emissions that will be required to take you there. Have no fear, the airport is now piloting kiosks -- much like an ATM -- where you can purchase carbon offsets with a simple swipe of your … [Read more...]

Sipping Virtual Wine

Elizabeth

I have to admit to being a pioneer in the field of virtual wine tastings, having held one about three years ago. It was mostly an excuse to drink wine but I still like to give it the label of "noble experiment." That was a Webinar but things have evolved. Tonight at 8, Elizabeth Eisenbeis Schneider -- an Executive Nomad contributor and … [Read more...]

Wake Up, Already!

Alarm clock

Here's a great site we found by way of Johnny Jet's Travel Blog: Wakerupper. It's a Web-based service through which you can place a (free) wake up call to any phone in North America. Say goodbye to kludgy hotel clock radios (that only seem to get more complicated over time) or the front desk on your next business trip. My Blackberry has an alarm … [Read more...]

Get Your Pedal On

Golden Gate in fog

Three Hyatt hotels in Boston have fired all of their housekeepers and have outsourced the duties to a Georgia firm. Unconfirmed reports reported by the Boston Globe suggest that the new housekeepers will be paid about half the hourly rate and will receive none of the benefits received by the current staff. This isn't a union issue; the fired … [Read more...]

Leaving on a Jet Plane

plane sunset

We don't often run memorial tributes on Executive Nomad but the song Leaving on a Jet Plane is about as close as we get to a business travel anthem. With that, we mark the passing of singer Mary Travers (who certainly did her share of "business trips" while on tour) with sadness, gratitude, and hopes that she is at peace as she arrives at her final … [Read more...]

San Francisco Sojourn

I was in San Francisco on business earlier this week. It is truly one of my favorite destinations and I'm always happy whether in the city for business or pleasure. I was facilitating the BeDo Intra 09 conference held at the Fort Mason Center so I found myself staying in the Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood -- one I don't often frequent because of … [Read more...]
